Jewelry that swears and other things

I have a confession to make. Sometimes I can be downright laaaazy when it comes to getting dressed in the morning. OK, I am downright lazy most of the time, but especially so when I am racing around at 730 AM.

Cardigan: ASOS; Tank: Zara; Skirt: Rachel Pally; Wood bangles and earrings: Forever 21; Tights: H&M; Pony-hair booties: Manolo Blahnik; Bag: Coach

Today, for example, took a lot of effort to dress this way. I wanted to stop schleping around the office in my loose skirts and big sweaters - because when it's dark and cold and I'm in a rush, that's the only thing that makes sense to put on - and actually look fashionable.

Problem is, when I look "fashionable" (or attempt to do so) it takes a lot out of me.

For example, my new Rachel Pally skirt is as comfy as a pair of sweatpants. So is the ASOS sweater shawl doo-hickey. But I knew that wearing something form-fitting AND bright would call for me to be on my game the whole day. Wearing pants and a sweater and flats, I can hide and no one will see me. But something like this, especially in an engineering office, brings about attention such as "why you're looking very primary today." Usually good, but attention nonetheless (I was thinking "primary" when I got dressed, so mission accomplished).

Then there is the matter of my booties. These Manolos were recently fixed up by the cobbler so I felt I owed it to them to wear it. Plus I love the way my legs look in them when paired with opaque tights. Anyhoo, the booties had ripped down the back of the ankle, due to shoving my feet into them and the fact that the zippers are on the outside (why is that so awkward? I swear a few times I put the shoe on the wrong foot because of that - that's probably why they ripped). So I had the cobbler put in elastic gussets at the back.

Worked like a charm but - and this is where I was going with the whole thing - because of the stretch now, my feet aren't as snug as they were. Meaning I'm kinda tilting when I walk in them (ever notice some people wearing heels and they aren't standing straight on the heel, rather the heel is at such an angle you're wondering how on earth they are staying upright? It's kinda like that). Meaning that I have to take carefully controlled steps.

And for a lazy person, it's all too much for me. When I get up to print something I have to concentrate on my walk, holding in my stomach, keeping my head high and making sure my skirt doesn't ride up. It's freakin' exhausting.

Funny thing is, most people would wear this outfit with no hassle at all, I guess I just like to keep my fussing to a minimum. I also kinda wish I could just wear this to work without scaring the engineers - us marketing girls are an anomaly here. I'm pretty sure that when I walk through the office, this is what they see:

In other news, I tried out some laaaazy French chic last week. To complete the outfit, I put on my new necklace from Lochers.

Blazer: Vintage; Striped lycra top: Forever 21; Pants: Zara; Necklace: Lochers; Flats: Marc Jacobs (see my eBay listings, they are for sale - 2 for 1, way too big for me!)

It seems fairly expensive for a simple chain necklace but on closer inspection you can see it's worth the pretty penny. It sumarizes what I am thinking at any given time of the day:

I've worn it a bunch since them, but no one has gotten close enough to actually read it. Though my boss was staring at it from a far the other day - luckily if she did actually read it, she'd just want one herself. We hate all the same things and people.

Speaking of Lochers, I'm selling my "Will Fuck For Shoes" and "Good Luck, Motherfucker" T-shirts on eBay at the moment. Snap them up before someone else does -marked down from $63 to $9.99! http://shop.ebay.ca/merchant/marilynmunro

Have a great weekend - be sure to check back tomorrow for my "Inspired by" post, this week's selection is none other than the fab, the only, "The Eagles."

PPS - I thought I would try something new for a month (I'm all about that, if you can't tell) and this includes being one of those people who enters every contest that they see. I've had good luck before (winning the Jessica Simpson lookalike one back in 2004, and other contest wins), so who knows??

PPPS -
I got my "statement" necklace! Green egg turquoise from China. I was totally inspired by a photo of Lady Melbourne.

PPPPPSSSS - Fellow blogger Asleigh is having a giveway on her blog for all you recessionistas out there!

Haha when I saw the photo at first but hadn't read the text yet, I thought "wow that girl looks so much like Jessica Simpson" and didn't even realize it was you! I totally understand how you feel about engr guys commenting about your clothes. I think the guys in my office are getting used to it now maybe although the other day I wore a green dress with matching green sandals (it was sunny!) and got so many remarks about it, even from girls. I say, just take it as a compliment!

PS. So you work in a big engineering/tech company and it's downtown? haha now I'm really curious where you work b/c I can't think of any except EA, Sierra, or Bobj? :p

oh, you´re so pretty!
and I definitely know that feeling of getting up too early and just wanting to pull over something that makes you feel comfortable when pjs aren´t an option.
I´m usually going for a simple tunic, tights and boots then, paired with loads of jewelry.

and omg, that you won that jessica simpson look-a-like contest!! didn´t I tell you before that you look so much like her? :)

and I always wonder when you´re rambling about your weight and that diets don´t work for you- what part of your body do you need to use weight on?
you look fantastic and slim!
I´m not even trying to flatter you, I just seriously wonder.

Thanks everyone!

ISA - I wrote a longer response on your blog (sorry!) but basically it's just little things that won't change unless I lose 10 pounds (of fat). A 10 pound loss on my body isn't very drastic...for some reason!

Also, I try and dress to suit my figure so maybe this means I'm hiding the extra weight well? But believe me, If I started rocking out short shorts, you could really tell :)

Firstly, love that Primary look and especially you in yellow. I can understand what you mean about the "effort" and sometimes it is difficult. You just have to think outside the square when it comes to creating something you love that is also comfortable. ( I know as I have to spend a lot of time crawling around on the floor with children in my outfits). But also concentrate on being the best version of YOU and your style, rather than being FASHION.

I ADORE that necklace and must know where you found such a delightful piece of subversiveness.

Great colors in the first outfit! And I love your lazy French chic. I know what you mean. I tend to gravitate towards dark, dull clothes--they seem like so much less work.
