We interrupt Vintage Dress Week with an important bulletin

So I wasn't originally going to do this because I don't like to tout my own horn here, but considering the circumstances on my last post, I decided I will.

It's scary enough to post pictures of yourself in a bikini on your blog but even more so to be in a bikini in a national magazine. Hell, most of my friends haven't even seen me in a bathing suit!

But to hell with it...here I am in Self magazine (I picked it up at the Toronto airport while we were flying out, it was quite exciting!):

Regarding the comment in my last post: Normally I would ignore the haters...if someone called me "fat" I wouldn't say anything, but when you make fun of a disabled person, you're pretty much going straight to Hell, lol. It's sad that there are pathetic, petty people out there who get off on making fun of others, anonymously too I might add. It's even more pathetic when such a person takes a dig at someone for their disability...I mean, could it be more obvious, more desperate? It's like they are grasping wildly for anything to bring me down. Nice try.

That's why I am posting this today, because I am proud of these damn scars on my feet and the years of pain my disability has put me through. Hell, I wouldn't be where I am today (in a magazine, no less) without them. You can make fun of my legs but I think they suit me just fine, you can tell me I have cankles (ironically my ankles are very slim and what does jut out is broken bone due to surgery - not fat, you fucktard) and you can tell me that you think I make every pair of shoes I wear look bad.

But I'm not going to agree with you - and I'm not going to stop buying awesome shoes and I certainly won't stop showing them off. What I will agree with is what everyone else is thinking: you must be a sad, jealous person to make fun of someone for a disability. The fact that I've lost weight, am in a magazine which showcases my strengths and said disability and have a lot going for me right now only hammers this point home. So say what you want - hidden "somewhat" anonymously in my comments like the coward you are, after all the more you try and "insult" me, the worse you look.

And the better I look. After all, I figure if I've got some haters, that means I must be doing something right with my life! So thank you for that assurance. I am actually...well, flattered.

Back to the dresses! Ok, this is a cop-out because I thought I was buying a vintage dress...it said it was at any rate. But then looking at the label I realize that Blue Plate isn't a vintage brand. Regardless, I wore this mexican-inspired number with my saucy new Antik Batik sandals. I was eyeing these babies for a very long time, not willing to shell out over $200 for sandals though - but when they dropped in price, I snapped them up. FEET CANDY!!

Dress:Blue Plate; Sandals: Antik Batik; Sunglasses: Marc Jacobs

And one more good note:

YAY! Our weather couldn't be better :)

Fantastic response, really. I can't believe that someone would attack you that way, but I've gotten enough of those comments and emails that I've learned (sadly) that there are just sad, angry people out there who have no concept of what is and is not appropriate.

Kudos to you on the magazine feature! That's fantastic!
Those sandals DO remind me of candy :)

Yaaaaay! You look gorgeous, as I said before. Huge accomplishment and you deserved your SELF article. :) Love your vintage dress and yay for sunny weather. Now...go and enjoy it! :)

Amber said...

Wow, congrats on the article - you look fantastic, as always!

As for the haters, I was on the receiving end of this too this week, with someone leaving really vicious comments on my blog, and I totally agree with everything you've said about people who say those kind of things. Glad you're not letting them get to you. One thing I've learned, is that these people are almost always either 13 years old, or just totally crazy. My hater has a blog herself, and a quick look at it was enough to show me that she is someome who is actually mentally ill, and I mean that literally. So the comments are about THEM, and have nothing to do with you at all. Also, you have great legs, and great shoes: they're jealous.

Yes Yes!! I aodre your shoe collection. The weather has been fab, spending my days on the beach.

Congrats on the new bikini body, you really look great!!

I was pleasently surprised this month when I was flipping through my Self mag and saw you! How exciting!

You look fab! I was surprised to hear about your hater, but I love your response to him/her. That is definitely one of your great qualities - seeing beyond the bull shit! I'm glad you're not letting some nameless, faceless fucktard (I believe that's the word you used) get to you. You are beautiful, Darling, inside and out :)

ps - congrats on the SELF too!

Congratulations on your feature! I think you're gorgeous head to toe! I can relate to you a lot on feeling self-conscious about the way you look because I have a big scar on my left arm that I feel like I can never wear sleevless shirts (I started wearing camaflourge make up and it covers quite a bit) and I have braces so I'm a little umcomfortable about smiling.

Ignore the crazy people there who made negative comments on your blog because you're better than them! You look fabulous in a bikini! xxoxoxoxoxoxo

That's SO cool that you're in Self magazine! I'll have to buy a copy!!

I used the Self plan when I wanted to lose weight a couple years ago, too! It was great, definitely helped me lose weight! I think it was the tracking what I ate more than anything that helped!

Anonymous commenters that say mean things are jerks! Good for you for standing up for yourself!

OMG, how amazing!! Congratulations!

Congrats on the Self feature!! You look awesome. What a F'ing retard that Anon is, I hate anonymous coward commenters. How could they ever say such hateful things about you?! None of them are true, and you look amazing!

Ahhh Congrats on being in Self!!! I love that magazine! Is it the newest issue? You're looking fab in that dress as well. Loving the weather forecast.. it's gonna be a hot one this week :)

I don't usually comment, but I love following your blog. I would never know from your pictures that anything was wrong with your feet, but I'm glad you're so open about sharing your experiences. You're very inspiring! Don't let the haters get you down!

omg karina i have to say, fix your nails, i see some chipping. that's so unhot of you.

That was me btw lol. I have to pick on something lol.

*grumbles about you being perfect* So rude lol.

Congratulations! Really well done, lady!
Also, love your sandals in the later outfit. :)

Wanderlusting said...

Thanks everyone.

Except Kass...lol I was even cringing at my nails in that shot.

MS said...

What kind of person leaves a rude comment like that? What a jerk and pathetic person! That person needs to get a life and get over their major insecurity problems. You always look great and make the shoes look good too.

Cute dress!

Kass said...

My nails look like probably 70% of the time lol I too hate it (tho I'm too lazy to do anything about it lol)

Kass said...

Here, I fixed your nail problem (but couldn't resist also giving you a hooker make over lol!)

OMFG that's awesome! You must be excited!
I never noticed anything wrong with your feet--I've only ever noticed how beautiful you are and how great your smile is. I myself have actual cankles, and god seriously any man who gives a shit about my cankles must be a woman-hater. And any woman who gives a shit must hate herself. Ya know? It takes bad self-esteem to pick someone apart like that.

Aww. I had to check out the hater comment and it just made me laugh. What a childish attempt to bring you down.. we all know where the motivation comes for someone to "anonymously" attack someone on the internet. How cowardly and pathetic, and what a waste of time.

You are beautiful, the dress in the last post is beautiful, the shoes are amazing, and congratulations on the magazine feature, yay!

Gorgeous, as usual!

Congrats on the Self Mag!! I've always been so inspired by the real women featured in that magazine- that is so awesome!

As for your vintage dresses- I love them all! And never let anyone tell you that you can't rock something- because you so can! When haters criticize it says more about them and less about you- it's their own insecurities coming out.

Hope you have an awesome weekend!

PinkFleurette said...

Wow, that dress is beautiful!

And honestly, I know I've said it before but I've never noticed anything wrong with your feet or legs. Every outfit you wear, I like and admire. I think everyone has something that they are insecure about...and the fact that you were brave enough to get photographed in a bikini has encouraged me to finally wear a bikini for the first time in my life.

I'm 21 years old, and I've never worn a 2 piece bathing suit. I think this week...I'm finally going to.

Good on you!! Congratulations on being featured in the magazine!

what an idiot the 'anonymous' comment...
i didn't know you've had surgery and i was actually commenting your blog and your looks with my husband last night. I made a comment about your feet coz you've made the comment on your blog before, but i really didn't know you had had surgery, and what a clubfoot was. I just googled it coz i had no idea.

you're beautiful and i love the way you're always trying to be healthy-not look better.

so...
congrats for the featuring in the magazine and for changing sizes!!! :) Way to go!!

and that idiot said that about your shoes coz he/she is envious of all your shoes :)

Dirtbag Darling said...

how amazing for you! that is so inpsiring as well. I don't really need or want to lose weight...but I admit I've been lacking on the exercise lately. You've totally inspired me to get back out there and run again. congrats!!!!

And the haters will get their karma one day. dont you worry

Odette said...

Oh so jealous of the awesome weather!

Those sandals do look like candy! Yum! :)

I don't see cankles and I fully agree with you that "anonymous" = jealous fucktard! You're awesome and I am glad that YOU know it! :)

Holly said...

Omg.... congratulations :)

P.S your weather is looking so much better then ours.... raining all weekend long.

♥ Marta ♥ said...

P.S. forget about the hater comment, I think all bloggers get them once in a while... always anonymous :P You're fabulous just the way you are!

Cupcake Blonde said...

The haters only hate because they are jealous and have insipid and meaningless lives. We all know how utterly gorgeous and fabulous you are and you're in a magazine!! That hater can suck it and his lowly patheticness.

YOU ARE FABULOUS! Don't let anyone ever tell you otherwise! Honestly, I never would have known that you had a disability or "less than perfect feet/legs" had you not mentioned it! I think you stunning and you my dear are one of the nicest girls I have never met (maybe someday when I venture into Canada)! Our imperfections make us interesting and personally, I wouldn't want you to be anyother way than what you are because you are awesome! You gave me some of the most honest and best advice when I needed it most! Luff you!
