Romper Room

Oh, Hai!

So....

I bought a pair of rompers. Yep. Rompers. The trend that I think is RIDICULOUS. But I saw these and they were oh so cute and I thought, well maybe...maybe if I lost a few and maybe if they were long enough in the crotch and maybe....you get the idea.

Then I saw the belt. Sweet, sweet yellow belt with grape detail on the clasp. The belt was worth the cost alone. Then I saw the "Apre Ski" dress from the same seller (see previous post) and I thought "HEY. Why not? Maybe, just maybe, I could pull it off! And combined shipping..."

And the package came in the mail and it was a big NO. I mean, it's not bad, per se. I've seen worse on me. And thankfully it is long enough to accomodate my long torso and huge ass and the shorts aren't riding up said ass.

Romper: Vintage; Belt: Vintage; Shoes: Robert Clergerie; Clip-on earrings:ASOS

But as much fun as it was to put the babies on for this shoot, I realized it's just not me. I have the attitude but I don't have the BODY to pull this off. Even with my new "Lego Clonkers" aka Robert Clergerie wedges which I love dearly (especially since his shoes average above $600 and I got them for about 80% off!)

And there ya have it folks....I am now offering these rompers for sale (sans belt). They fit a size medium and have an elastic waist so they would fit a large too. The only thing that isn't stretchy is the bust....it looks adjustable but it aint. So I advise a chest of 34 or higher otherwise the thing will fall off.

Vintage striped romper: $20. Shipping anywhere world wide: $10. I accept Paypal! Drop me an email (my address is written discretly on the sidebar) and let me know if you want it!

So speaking of not having the body, I have to ask...how has your body influenced your fashion choices?

See...in the blogging/fashion world, I feel like I just don't stack up. After all, most popular bloggers are tall and skinny (try and dispute me but just look around and you know it's true) and I am very much not tall and not skinny. So when I wear stuff, it doesn't look as good as it would on other people and also I can't even wear a lot of stuff because of it. I mean, they can wear a garbage bag and BELT it and make it look good...I can't do that and I think it is a considerable disadvantage. I dream about the stuff I COULD wear IF I had the right skinny body. If your average skinny blogger wore this romper outfit it would be awesome, right out of a magazine. But with ME? It's bordering on a joke.

And I am treating it as such.

(Though the fact that I am selling the rompers is not a joke - please buy :P)

I'm not saying nothing looks good - indeed I do know what suits my body. But I don't think "skinny" girls realize that "we" (not skinny) have to work a little harder to make things look almost as good as they do. I don't think it's a matter of confidence either - though that certainly comes into effect - but just the way some people look better in short shorts than others do.

So, as I asked before...has your body type determined what clothes you can and can not wear?

PS - Lots of good stuff coming up this weekend....a giveaway from Rice and Beans Vintage as well as MY END OF SUMMER SHOE SALE with rad discounts!!

We all need to dress for our own body shape, thin girls of course have the added benefit of often, not looking obscene in body revealing clothes. I think the one thing most of us need to deal with though, and I am still learning this, that if something looks terrible on me, it is not my fault, it is the outfit.

I am TOTALLY in love with those fabulous shoes, and they go perfectly with your romper! You look so summery and perfect!

And I basically wear whatever my little heart desires, even if it fights with my body type :)

I think that romper looks really cute on you! And while you are not the typical "tall" and "skinny" model, I think your body looks amazing!! You are by no means fat and have curves which I think looks a lot better...like Kim Kardashian. Some clothes don't look right on girls that aren't toothpick thin, but lots of clothes look even better on girls with meat on their bones! (And I don't mean chunky, I mean not typical model skinny because you are definitely nowhere near chunky!)

My hips/ass/thighs are disproportionate to the rest of my body and as such, I refuse to wear skinny jeans. It's frustrating because I like the look of skinny jeans. I'd really love to able to rock a pair of skinny jeans but I'm afraid I'd end up looking more pear-shaped than I already do. I do not love it.

Kendra said...

Hillary, I am with you! I am a former soccer players whose also formerly super powerful, muscular butt and thighs... have gone to mush. And much takes up significantly more volume than muscle!

I adore the skinny jeans, mini skirts and other trends but just can't wear them. No literally, not that I won't... I can't! I have yet to find a pair of skinnies that I can pull up past my knees. Ho hum....

I always have my body type in mind when I'm shopping for clothes. I'll see things that are cute but I'll know right away that it just won't work on me. I'm 5'1", short-waisted, a C-cup, have a ridiculously small bum, and while I'm not totally uncomfortable with my weight or what I would call heavy, I'm no size 2 either :-P Definitely carrying some extra rations in my saddle bags - LOL

So knowing what looks good on my body can be a challenge but I find that if I see something I like but immediately know it won't work on me, I'm not really all that attracted to it anymore (maybe because my vivid imagination cooks up a nasty image of what I would look like in it - hard to love an article of clothing after that). That makes it a little easier because I'm not lusting over things that wouldn't flatter me anyway.

I think you have a rockin' bod and I would love to possess the motivation to be as fit as you are! I'm having your same problem today - I LOVE that romper but I'm having a tough time deciding if it would look as good on me as it does on you - nevermind those waifey bitches ;-)

I have this one-piece already - http://tiny.cc/34rP5 - and it looks really cute on me, and your romper looks like it'd be even more forgiving. It is soooo tempting ....

hehe DO IT! I like the UO romper, I just can't pull them off...I'm not one for shorts at any rate and my torso is too long for onesies.

Not to mention Mike just started laughing when he saw me. Oh well, I had to try it!

Man...you say you don't have the body, but I was just thinking yesterday how blessed you are...that even before you lost weight, you still looked hot. You have a great shape.

I love the lego shoes.

I am what I call 'short and stubby.' I started to wear a lot of baby doll stuff, but sometimes, it makes my belly look bigger than it actually is. I think I actually look thinner when I show off my hourglass...so tight stuff, and accent around the waist. I love dresses and skirts...But slender pants make me look thinner, I think...Also, I try to not wear anything strapless...

Passion4Fashion said...

I think the romper looks good on you! I am with you on the not being able to wear certain things. I just try to keep an open mind and TRY different things. I am a large boned girl. I am quite busty, with a round middle and very little behind. Everyone is on the belting trend and I have to work really hard to make it work for me. Sometimes I just give up on belting but I TRY not to give up on me. There is nothing wrong with not being waif thin. Guys dig curves. Hence all the references to T & A. Those waif girls can't pull that off!!!! HURRAY!

Jessi said...

Welllll... I am one of those "tall skinny" girls you mention ;), but it doesn't mean shopping is a walk in the park for me... pant hem lengths can be a bitch, especially if on a budget - cheaper brands don't tend to make lengths other than "regular". And while I'm thin, I do have muscle in my thighs/booty, so I get the whole tight-as-hell-around-my-thighs-but-a-huge-gap-at-the-waistband thing with pants, which drives me clinically insane. I also have the smallest boobies known to womankind, so some tops/dresses/bathing suits look ridiculous on me 'cause I just don't fill 'em up.

The grass is always greener... I think your curvacious bod is rockin' and I quite often wish I had a few more curves, especially in the boob department. *le sigh* Oh well :)

Lindsay said...

I absolutely feel that my body has influenced my fashion choices... but I think that's also the beauty of being a busty girl with some curves. I know that many of my skinny friends envy my boobs (just gonna lay it out there ;o). Its like the saying "girls with straight hair want curls and girls with curls want straight hair."

MizzJ said...

I love those Lego shoes! Too bad about the romper. I so agree with you on how the most popular bloggers are skinny and tall (hate you Rumi haha), but yeah it's nothing to cry about. I've always tried to concentrate on making do with what I've got rather than mope about what I'm not and never will be.

This screams 1940's vintage, and the dress below is also equally lovely. YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL. :)

LOVE LOVE LOVE those shoes!!

i am fairly tall and have a decently easy time finding clothes that fit, but my "problem areas" are
a) my boobs apparently want to live under my armpits, so anything v-neck / halter / etc that doesn't involve a bra pulling the ladies in toward the center? bad bad bad. lots of super-sexy exposed sternum.
b) the tall shoulder thing i think i've mentioned before - strapless stuff makes it look like my boobs are down around my belly, just because the bare shoulder area looks too disproportionately long. and SO MANY cute dresses (ha, and rompers) are strapless!!

Fashion Cappuccino said...

I love that romper on you! Very cute! I think you have a very fit body and a gorgeous face! As for bodytypes, I try not to wear prints or long, slouchy dress/pants. xxoxoxoxo

Kass said...

I think most people have trouble finding clothes that suit them, even the skinny girls. Regardless of size, every body is different, which means everybodys individual styles are different.

And I'm talking about women here, not teenage girls that pretty much have no body lol.

Well, I feel the same way. I am not tall or thin so I tend to shy away from really fashionable stuff. But you are an inspiration to me! You know what works for your body. I just have a big behind and appalling legs!

You look adorable, but I hear rompers are very "inconvenient" when it comes to public restrooms...but those wedges! I LOVE!

I was just thinking about that the other day, about all these amazing fashion bloggers and how they look so amazing and can pull off anything, but I was including YOU in that group! lol.
I think the great, positive comments you receive everyday from people all over the map can attest to that ;)

Drooling over those shoes!

Are you kidding? You pull this romper off so well! I love the retro/nautical vibe with the sunnies, bright lipstick, and chunky yellow and white heels. It's perfect.

You can pull off anything, if you wear it with confidence. Its not about your bodytype, its about you.

I LOVE this outfit... so fresh and summer perfect! I think you have the body to full it off. My body influences what I wear, most of my life I've been criticized for being thin... and over time I've just started to cover up and hide more. Only now and I learning to embrace my body, despite what people have said.

Those shoes are insanely amazing....

Have a beautiful weekend.

I love the stripes! So cute, but not really for me either.

Re your comment: I'm insanely jealous that you have a slip and slide :)

Sure a lot of bloggers are tall and skinny - but I find that most of the vintage girls aren't of this description - like Keiko Lyn, Strawberry Koi Vintage, The Freelancers Fashion Blog, Diary of a Vintage Girl, Casey's Elegant Musings and Vintage Vixen (sorry I don't have links) - they're ALL not your typical skinny girl but ALL look absolutely STUNNING!! :-D

Though I do know how you feel about not being able to wear certain things. I have a long torso too and combine that with short bowed legs (yours a longer than mine lucky thing) and it can get a bit annoying. I'm sticking to skirts and dresses lately which are easier to find a good fit in.

Those shoes are kick arse. I tend to not where shorts, except bermudas, cuz I'm not in love with my legs. I wish I didn't care. Sigh.

I know how you feel! I recently invested in a romper and was undecided until the floral print (and the feeling that I was wearing my pyjamas) won me over.
My "shape" influences what I buy a lot. My short stature becomes a recurring problem when shopping. But usually I just buy whatever I like :)
It would be mine
p.s that romper looks absolutley fine on you! honestly!

Your feet and legs look terrible upside down, like you are slightly retarded...please stop posting such nonsense. Your legs are too fat

Oh Siddy... I am retarded. Don't you get that by now? :P

I think you are CRAZY INSANEO body dysmorphia NUTS! You have a killer body and look great in clothes, especially this romper, my jaw dropped when I read that you think it's a huge no because the pictures are fabulous! If you are not skinny, I never noticed. You are smokin straight out of a 1950s pinup calendar with those curves and red lipstick
XOXO

P.S. I received the dress I won and it was love at first sight! I imediately stripped out of whatever sub-standard ole thing I was wearing and into that wonderful dress and I couldn't be happier. Thanks so much for having such awesome giveaways on your blog!

Sierra said...

My body is athletic too so I don't categorize myself in the skinny area either, but I am still happy being me and enjoy fashion. I do have a harder time finding jeans that fit and end up wearing a lot of dresses.

I think you look great in this romper girl! Don't be hard on yourself. Also, those shoes are killer and the red lipstick was the perfect addition.

Kaiti said...

Lucky for you Siddy, since it seems to offend you so much, Wanderlusting doesn't walk around upside down all day ...

Do you REALLY have nothing better to do than post these comments? Lol

On a more interesting note, I bought the romper! Wooo!

The Budget Babe said...

you're hot. and you have a beautiful face. i'm not crazy about the romper itself but i think you wear it well. i love the shoes and yellow belt. overall, it's a fun look.

Cupcake Blonde said...

Those shoes are killer!

Siddy needs to get their attitude checked at the door. Perhaps we could help with that. I know some persuasive techniques that are sure to work well.

PinkFleurette said...

It's one thing to have a great body and be able to wear anything, but its truly stylish when you DON'T and you find a way to make yourself look stunning.

I love your blog. I like that you look pretty much like an average girl and not a supermodel (not that you're not stunningly gorgeous) but your outfits look good because they are creative and unique, not because of the body wearing them.

In other words, dressing to fit your body type is more important than looking trendy or whatever.

I am ok with the way my body looks but it's far from perfect. I have really broad shoulders and I look BAD in halter tops because of it. I always wished I could wear strapless things and such and I just can't. I also have to try and hide my stomach...because its flabby, haha. I wish I had a better figure...but I guess I have to settle for what God gave me.

Awww hun, I think your attitude is more than enough to pull off these rompers. I think you look like a total babe and pin-up and I would love your amazing legs and curves and hair ;) You're gorgeous! No use comparing yourself against the other gorgeous bloggers out there. You have your game on tight!
