Inspired By: David Bowie

David Bowie has been a constant fixture in my life. Growing up, my brother was obsessed with Bowie...and today he actually kinda looks like him. I, in turn, was constantly exposed to Bowie - though perhaps more the 80's sounds of Let's Dance (I was an 80's child) and watching Labyrinth weekly. Oh, you could not get King Jareth's crotch out of your mind.

Now though, with my deep love of Classic Rock, I find myself listening to more and more DB each day. Suffragette City. Space Oddity. Fame. Under Pressure. China Girl. Changes. Rebel Rebel. Ziggy Stardust. Ashes to Ashes. And of course, Heroes. And one of my faves, Golden Years.

But aside from his amazing talent as a singer and songwriter, Bowie is equally well known for his flamboyant and innovative stage personality and outrageous fashion choices. Least that was back in the day...he is now dapper, handsome man, married to the very fashionable Iman.

I'm not wearing what Bowie would wear - obviously, I don't possess full length star print lycra suits - but I feel like this is something a club kid would have worn to one of his shows in the 80's. Let's Dance!

LEATHER SKIRT: Vintage; BAG +SHIRT: Forver 21; HEELS: Helmut Lang; CHAIN NECKLACE (as belt or bracelet): French Connection

Oh yeah, it has been brought to my attention that I am in the new issue of SELF MAGAZINE! Yep, little ol' me. Nothing too exciting though, except the article was supposed to come out LAST August in 2008. So a lot of time has passed. However, thanks to my extreme willpower and determination, I managed to lose NINE pounds since July 1st...you know, when I posted that bikini picture? This one?

Well, here is me now - this morning.

You yourself probably can't tell a difference, but I sure can. I'm less puffy and everything is tighter AND flatter.

How did I do it? Well, I'm not quite done yet. I've got another 5 pounds to go to my goal weight. But anyway, my methods are what some consider "mad" and it is quite controversial, which is why I didn't blog about it until after it was over. Then I could give my honest opinion and advice on the matter (Oh, I know a lot of you already know what it is...Hell, it's even in the actual magazine I am in! Albeit they warn you NOT to do it....BUT I have a thorough rebuttal to that, brought on by my recent personal experience, as well as advice from an amazing nutritionist/life guru).

Anyhoo, that's for next post ;) The bottom line is I feel healthy, great and in shape and am looking forward to a healthier eating plan.

Three things..

1. That outfit is perfect Bowie, I love the eyeshadow

2. There is no way I could get the King's crotch out of my head. I freakin' love Labyrinth!

3. I can totally tell the difference between the two pictures.. that diet must definitely work. i'm looking forward to hearing what it is!

Love the 80s blue eyeshadow. In fact, in a few pics you reminded me of Debbie Harry!

Agreed with the bathing suit comments - you look great! I am interested in your next post on this controversial topic!

Wow, good work on the diet! I can't wait to hear your method, because I am having issues losing my last 10 lbs. I will definitely have to pick up an issue of SELF magazine, how the heck did you get in there? You rock! :) Loving your impersonation...you look like a great rocker chick and love the star fake tattoo. ;)

Congrats on the SELF mag inspiration! That's terrific- especially as you feel great about it!

I love your Bowie inspiration- not too over-the-top (I think very few people can get away with a unitard like that- possibly only Bowie). Your eye make-up looks awesome!

I LOOOOOOOVE that skirt and want one dearly! Also, go you for posting pics in your bikini. I love my body, but I don't think I'd ever have the brass to bare it on the interwebs. So, major props to you! And 9 pounds makes a HUGE difference!

I can totally see the difference between the two photos too. You look awesome :-) Good for you for achieving your goal! Well, most of it - but those few more pounds should be easy peasy after losing 9 in two weeks!

Wow! Well done in the weight loss front (not that you needed it)
Of all the people to be inspired by, David Bowie wouldn't be my first choice.. But you look awesome! Especially the make-up

It would be mine

The most important thing is for you to feel good. I know I'm happy with myself, but sometimes if i even lose 2 kilos then i feel even better even if it doesnt show.
You look amazing anyway, pretty and stylish and great in a bikini!
Not to mention great in a LEATHER skirt! Amazing!

Love your eye makeup there and the outfit is fabulous. Have to say right now all I can think about is King Jarreth's crotch.

I can see a difference and you look INCREDIBLE, though you looked incredible before. It's great you feel better too though, always a bonus.

Bowie was/still is a constant fixture in my life. I went to one of his concerts with my Mum...kind of, she was 7 months pregnant with me at the time! Her and my Dad are huge fans.
