Going to California

Saturday was spent assembling a new Ikea entertainment unit that my bf got for his birthday. Though it's crap quality as most Ikea items are, I think it organizes the chaos that had taken over my "living room" for the last four years, and surprisingly, it does not make the room look smaller. Huzzah!

We also got some new bedding from Urban Outfitters...makes the place look so much fresher!

After the assembling, we went to our friend's exhibit at the Ayden Gallery CARDED art show. Lot's of hipsters and arty-types about, but it was a fab time. I really wanted to pick up some cool new pillows and this rad cuff, but that will have to wait. California is calling!

You're living quite the fancy life for somebody who's jobless and without much money... enjoy it!

Hello I love your bedding.

LEN - honestly, I keep hearing this but maybe you kept missing the blog posts where I sold my clothes on Ebay for OVER A GRAND to pay for this trip.

Also, aside from having the time (since I am unemployed), this trip is actually very low-cost (cheap flights, hotel split 4 ways, rental car split). My boyfriend works, he was able to save up for it within a paycheck or two.

As for me, well I've talked ad naseum as how I've had to scrounge for money for this trip.

WHICH WAS BOOKED WELL BEFORE I WAS LAID OFF.

Anyway....hope that clears things up.

It's just that in one of the posts before this one, you were saying that you were angry that you couldn't just buy whatever you want, and then the next thing you talk about is a spectacular trip to California. Just speaking for myself, I am working and I couldn't afford it, neither money-wise nor time-wise.
So yeah, what I'm trying to say is that even though you're jobless and it sucks, you still have a lot going on in your life that you can be happy about, and you should be aware that there are more than enough people who struggle to pay even only for necessary expenses.

LEN - I'm not sure why I have to defend my trip to you but:

A) I am happy

B) I am lucky...things can always be worse

C) half the trip was booked and paid for before I was laid off

D) to pay for the rest, I made a lot of sacrifices I would have rather not made.

E) I said that I was angry and said I was embarassrd about it because it's a silly thing to be angry about. Because yes, I used to be able to buy what I wanted (within reason) and now I can't....this holds true whether I'm going on a trip or not. Now it's even more so because I'm going on the trip.

The sacrifices I have made (and no I don't blog about all of it) are worth it though.

Last but not least, I've been doing manual labour on the side to make extra cash for the trip.

That's how I can afford it.

And I don't feel bad that I'm angry that before I lost my job, I wouldn't have had to make all these sacrifices.

There's always people worse off from you, but that doesn't mean I can't vent frustrations on my blog. At least, I don't think!

Aw, don't sweat it. I think Len is maybe jealous (no offense, Len, I'm a little jealous too!) and has good intentions. I believe you would have begged borrowed and stolen to get to see the FNM reunion and I'm so thrilled for you! xx One of these days I'm going to make it out to Coachella and I hope you're there again too, cuz that would make it extra awesome. :)

Your apartment reminds me of my studio I had out of college. I loved it there, so cozy and cute. You have done a great job decorating and using the space to its best capacity. Love the guitar and amp pillow cases.
