Fashion is backwards in the southern hemisphere

Just like the way the toilet water flows, the fashion in New Zealand is backwards. Also smells like toilet water too. And it's not just the tweeny stores like Supre, it's even invaded Principals, a pricey store I coveted back in the day.

Yesterday, as I stumbled around the city (Auckland) in a no-sleep + jet lag + wine-induced haze, I was horrified to see the following items for sale in their clothing stores. You thought the 80's fashion was bad this year? Just wait till next summer, Northern Hemisphere! Behold the latest styles:

I went back to the stores to day in case it was a dream - after all I don't remember much of yesterday except that I was torturing the bride with Mike Patton, while she in turn tortured me with Supernatural (which actually wasn't torture because that's a pretty sweet show!). But no....80's/90's fashion is all the rage here and what's really disturbing is that it's the really BAD aspects of those decades. And also plenty of girls are wearing them like blind sheep. WHY WOULD YOU WEAR HIGH-WAISTED ACID-WASH DENIM SHORT SHORTS??? WHhyyyyyy?

That aside, it's great to be back in Auckland. Literally doesn't seem weird or jarring that I'm here, it's like nothing much has changed and that I always fly to New Zealand on the weekends.

I'm loving the light, warm days, the meal I just had of scrumptious meat pie and sauvignon blanc, and the beguiling chip flavours.

Now I just have to get used to this whole "vacation" thing. What do you mean I don't have to go to work for month?

Hope you're all having a great start to the week...I'm not even sure what day it is here.

Yes the fashion in Auckland is definately backwards, I dare you to take pics of the most fashionable girls on the streets - you wont have anything to post! Auckland and fashion - are two words that dont mix... Wellington however.... thats got fashion!

I hope that stuff is as cheap as it looks! Though some of the pieces aren't that bad (you know I love a denim vest) it /does/ look cheap.. which I'm not entirely opposed to either, lol..
Lamb and mint chips? Wow!
Looks like you're having a great time. Enjoy!!!

oh dear God it looks like 1990 vomited in that store. I like some of the styles that have come back but acid wash and that ugly floral crap is horrible

Gah. Jealous much? ;)
Want to join you in NZ, lucky girl. Very much.
And lol, are you at Supre? That's one of the stores you cringe at walking in and then walk around wearing trench coat and sunnies to hide :)

And Supre...oh so cheap and oh so baddddd 80s. I stick to the basics. That way I can buy many and pair with more expensive outerwear/shoes/bags/etc.

Have a brill vacay darling!

Fashion here is so totally 5 years behind, but really, you went to Supre! Don't judge us by that store! Good lord it's bad. Only the skanky OMGIMSOAWESOME 14 year olds shop there.

And if I remember correctly, Vancouver was a huge disappointment for me clothes wise, everything was so boring. Tho I had come from London, and we all know how awesome London is.

If you have some cash to play with, check out places like Storm, their clothing is beautiful and flowy and just lovely. I so wish I could afford to shop there :(

Actually, even the Warehouse currently has some cool looking t-shirts at cheap prices.

You know, if you're after that kind of stuff.

I have to agree with Kass - don't judge us by those teenybopper shops!!! Cringe..... Especially here in Auckland - there are LOTS of nicer shops than that...

Haha I knew I'd end up offending you Kiwis. New Zealand does have great fashion-this I know. I used to live here, remember? However all the chain stores were doong this horrible floral crap, the only exception being Portmans and Cue. HOWEVER those stores are also super expensive. I'd forgotten how pricey clothes are here.

Oh and Kass. I agree about a lot of Vancouver fashion being boring. HENCE the reason why I ONLY SHOP ONLINE! Lol

Oh dear, NEW season stuff?? Enjoy your vacation :) You should try Hong Kong for interesting chip flavours... I tried salmon sashimi flavour this summer! xoxo

Hmm lamb and mint chips? How intriguing! Too bad about the fashion; it does look like a bad day at F21. For some reason I was reminded of the show Blossom lol.

oooh noo! get out of Supre! It is not a great store to be in... for some reason this part of the world (Australia) has been 80s/90s obsessed for a while now. I keep hoping for it to end - I can't go shopping until it does!!

Yikes! Hopefully it's too cold to be wearing bleached demin vests and lots of spandex. Have a fantastic trip and keep us follers updated.

Lamb and mint? Sounds ...um...good. Was it?
I get you on the whole 80's/90's thing. A touch of inspiration is good, let's not recycle everything. It bugs me when people jump on the trend bandwagon without stopping to take a moment to think if it actually looks good. Ok. Rant over.

One can not tourture with Supernatural. Supernatural is too amazing a show to be torture. :)

I'm afraid... I'm very afraid. If that stuff comes to the US- and is popular!- I'm afraid I'll be a very, VERY unstylish girl for a season or two! Looks like you are having an amazing time! :)

Yeah, supre is a pretty shitty store, we have it Australia, I only shop there if I see jeans I like.
