Inspired By: Dire Straits

Baby I see this world has made you sad
Some people can be bad
The things they do, the things they say
But baby Ill wipe away those bitter tears
Ill chase away those restless fears
That turn your blue skies into grey

Why worry, there should be laughter after the pain
There should be sunshine after rain
These things have always been the same
So why worry now

Baby when I get down I turn to you
And you make sense of what I do
I know it isnt hard to say
But baby just when this world seems mean and cold
Our love comes shining red and gold
And all the rest is by the way

Why worry, there should be laughter after pain
There should be sunsh ine after rain
These things have always been the same
So why worry now

I love Dire Straits. I first started to listen them about 10 years ago, after stealing most of my dad's CDs.

I grew up with the music, you see. My dad is a sailor and I've been on a boat since I've been in diapers. Dire Straits (along with The Moody Blues and Johnny Cash) are the quintesential boat music and everytime I listen to this great British band I am transported back to sunny evenings and sea breezes.

Of course, as I grew older and began to cultivate all things Classic Rock, I began to appreciate Dire Straits for more than memories. Listening to Mark Knopfler's genius instantly transports me...maybe I'm driving down an empty highway as dark stormclouds gather on the cornfield horizon in Telegraph Road. Or I'm strolling down a rain-splattered London road On Every Street or Romeo and Juliet. Or staring out at the wild ocean battering the pier and thinking of lost loves that are So Far Away From Me (one of my all-time favourite songs).

I saw Mark Knopfler play at the Orpheum Theatre last year (the band Dire Straits has been broken up for awhile) and it was amazing. I literally had tears spilling down my face during Brothers in Arms. PS - I totally recommend anyone who is interested to download any of the songs above to experience just a bit of this moody magic (on Every Street, So Far Away From Me or Why Worry Now if you are feeling particularly dramatic and wish to feel as if a characted in a hopeless film).

Anyhoo, this is what I think of wearing when I think of Dire Straits: Romantic, Dark, British, Sad, Melodic, Yearning, Dramatic, Western and 70's.

Dress: Mina UK; Leather Jacket: Vintage; Peacock Earrings: ASOS; Scarab Bracelet: stand in Las Ramblas, Barcelona; Amber Bracelets: store in Tallin, Estonia; Tights: H&M; Boots: Bata

I love that song. :)

Is that a real little kid staring at you while you pose? If so, how cute!

I really like what you were wearing - and the heart is adorable.

I also think Dire Straits is great. Their music is really powerful.

You become cooler all the time.

One of my favorites is "Sultans of Swing", but I also really like "Walk of Life", "Industrial Disease", and "Skateaway". I love the imagery in Skateaway, a girl on roller skates listening to her music as she bops down the streets of New York.

"She's making movies on location
She dont know what it means
But the music make her wanna be the story
And the story was whatever was the song what it was..."

Of course, today, she'd be listening to mp3s on her iPhone instead of listening to the DJ on the radio, but still...

I just had to comment again so I could mention that the word verification for this post is "firehor".

Hey hey! So I think that you look REALLY skinny! I am not just blowing smoke up your ass either I promise. I had the same problem last time I was dieting too and so I gave up and now I realize that that was really stupid, so you are so smart for sticking with it, but please don't disappear altogether! :)

I love, love, love Mark Knopfler. I really like the old Dire Straits stuff, but I'm loving the plain ol' Mark Knopfler stuff right now too. Shangra La is one of my favorite albums of his right now. Some great boat songs on there! :)
