Inspired by: Elton John

2009, to me, will always instantly be recalled by a few piano notes of Elton John. Though I had fallen for his music back in 2000, when "Tiny Dancer" on the Almost Famous soundtrack opened my eyes from 90's alternative to classic rock (which, ironically, is now being considered classic rock), it wasn't until this year that I really started getting into it - starting with his greatest hits and then working my way backwards to the magic that is Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy (which has the wonderful "Someone Saved my Life Tonight" and is for some reason, NOT on the greatest hits) as well as Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - the 1973 album which has so many fantastic songs including my favs "All The Girls Love Alice" (below - DO LISTEN), "Sweet Painted Lady," "Grey Seal," of course the titular track, and "Candle in the Wind" - his tribute to Marilyn Monroe (Goodbye Norma Jean...)

Other faves that I can't help but love are Rocketman, Your Song, Daniel, Island Girl (which I used to think he was singing "I like girls" to which I was like, you are such a LIAR!), Philadelphia Freedom, Crocodile Rock, I'm Still Standing, Honky Cat, Saturday Night....ack, so many! I could literally go on and on...

But let'ts talk about Elton's wonderfully courageous fashion sense. From the start, there was no hiding his flamboyancy and his affection for crazy glasses, sequin hats, Balmain-esque jackets and crazy-ass platforms. God bless Elton!

And thus, he has been inspiring me lately...maybe not to this extent but certainly makes you push your boundaries!

Platforms: Robert Clergerie; Pants: Guess; Dress (worn as top): ASOS; Hat: Forever 21; Tie necklace: Paraphenelia

I guess you delete comments that you don't want to hear, even if they are not insulting. Talk about ignorance being bliss. Something turns me off completely about that, so I guess you're minus one reader. If these are your true colors, I hope they shine thru so others aren't fooled.

  3. i am a big fan of the shoes and pants. i love that you thought elton was lying in that song, teehee. i think you channeled elton very very well.

    what's up with anonymous?

  4. ANON - are you kidding me? I've never deleted a comment in my life - believe me, I've had my fair of nasty ones (like your petty one) that everyone has had the "pleasure" of seeing. If I deleted comments, wouldn't I delete the one you just left? LOL and we know the true meaning behind that today, don't we?

  5. Luv the dress as a top (did you tuck it in?) and those RC shoes are amazing, I like seeing them pop up here. Sorry I don't comment that often, just read your previous post - I always read but too lazy to comment.

Funny that this anonymous person is/was a "reader" and yet chooses to remain anonymous. Not really sure what their problem with you is - doesn't seem to make much sense?!

Ah well, always haters around! Keep your posts fun as always!!

  26. I LOVE Elton John! I find his music much better than 90s grunge, to be honest. 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' makes me want to cry and 'Tiny Dancer' makes me want to look at the stars at night (even though I can rarely find any with the LA smog). very nice post! :)

  27. cute post! I was gonna channel his white suit and white panama hat look for halloween, and make a cardboard piano to go with it... but I was lazy ;]
